Droylsden and District Food Bank came into operation on the 6th of December 2013 following some 6 months of preparation, training and negotiations with the Trussell Trust, a well established leader in the field working to empower local communities combat poverty and exclusion in the UK and Bulgaria.Warehouse premises have been kindly provided by Tameside M.C. for only a peppercorn rent. The food distribution centre operates from St. Mary’s Church – Church Street Droylsden. With opening hours being 12 noon – 2pm every Friday, with view to increasing subject to demand. All work involved management, administration, warehousing etc is carried out by volunteers from five local churches. All food comes from public donations, and twice a year a local supermarket supplements al donated purchases by 30%.The food bank does not operates on an open door policy. All customers are referred by professional referring agencies such as the Benefits Agency, Social Workers, G.P’s etc, who identify people in crisis and issue them with a voucher which can be exchanged at the food bank Tameside distribution centre for three days supply of nutritionally balanced, non perishable food sufficient to feed their family. It is usually a”one off” provision to overcome a crisis situation but additional help is provided in the form of a listening ear and signposting customers to other helpful services.

This is a support group for people who care and support people with mental health problems.

We meet at the Dream Centre on the first Tuesday of every month from 11-1pm.
