About The Dream Centre

Welcome to the Dream Centre, formerly known as Bethel Christian Centre.

The Dream Centre is an expression of everything that church should be and we believe what 21^st century Tameside actually needs. Whenever a church changes its name, it is a major and momentous time in its history and is more than just a simple re-branding. With a new name, a new nature must then unfold.

In Genesis 28, we see a man by the name of Jacob running in fear for his life, after what would best be described in today’s terms as, an ‘in-house family confrontation.’ Jacob, like so many people today, found himself running in search of a new destination in the hope that peace and inner security could be found. After a period of time, Jacob arrived in a place described as a ‘certain place’ or ‘common place’; a place filled with darkness, not to mention a place void of love and acceptance. When people find themselves living in such places, feelings of fear, hopelessness and discouragement begin to fill their hearts. If this best describes you, then stay with me a little longer - at least to the end of the story. It was during this moment that Jacob experienced a divine encounter with a God that he himself had never previously encountered.

Though Jacob came from a family who had a spiritual lineage, he himself did not know or necessarily believe in God. He had probably witnessed, like so many, empty religion filled with nothing more than empty, worthless words. It was because of such a background that Jacob needed, let’s say ‘a God with a difference’. Due to fatigue, Jacob falls into a deep sleep whilst in his ‘certain place’. Now remember; Jacob is an ordinary man like you and me and if God did if exist, then what would He be doing in a common place like this anyway? During the night, Jacob, though asleep, was awoken to an invitation to see, touch and enter into the divine presence of God in order for the dream of the king to be made known to him. Jacob, an ordinary man, is found saying ‘How awesome is this place, for surely God was in this place and I didn’t know it’. It’s amazing to think that God is still revealing Himself in common places.

The Dream Centre is an ordinary ‘common place’ church, yet saying this, it is also a place where each week, people just like you are being awoken to the divine presence and power of God, leaving them thinking to themselves, ‘How awesome is this place, for surely God was in this place but I never knew it.’ It is this nature, alive on the inside of those gathering and attending, which makes us a church with a difference.
