The word for Tameside

The River of Life

Rev 22:1-6 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.  The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” NIV

Jeremiah 17:7-10 “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct,  according to what his deeds deserve.”

I see a large tree representing Tameside and the leaves representing a younger generation. The leaves that clothe the tree appear to have withered and died for they are brown and wrinkled, signaling the end of a disregarded life and generation. Governments and councils have tried to bring health back to the tree and its leaves as various organisations have tried to revive the tree by beating it with words, action and resources, albeit to no avail. What the tree needed wasn’t so much action or resources, but someone to speak tenderly to it, (words filled with love). The tree has been rebuked and beaten by many, almost written off, disregarded as being hopeless, but all God was waiting for was for someone to speak to the tree so it could feed upon the water of God’s word. As the word was, and is, continually being spoken, health is being restored to the tree making it once again a tree fit for purpose. As both the spirit and word are continually spoken, the branches of the tree begin sprouting new leaves. The generation that has been unreachable, uncontrollable will once again be turned around as a generation begins polarising around the things of God. Governments and councils will come to the point of asking, ‘Why are so many young people going to church within Tameside?’ as many look for answers and because of this many will want to take the credit for this move. This move is the direct result of the church speaking out tender, spirit-driven words to the tree. All God has been waiting for is for the church to speak up and speak out, tender, loving, spirit-driven words.   

Romans 8:20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

Prophetic word

The ground was cursed in days gone by, and no matter how much the ground has been worked, no matter how many seeds have been sown, no matter how much the ground has been watered, there has been no return. It has looked hopeless as if nothing good has been produced. God is saying that none of the work has been wasted; all the work, all the seed, and all the water has been stored. And I can see the tree that God prophesied and above it is a huge canopy, supported by four poles, one in each corner. The centre of the canopy is weighted - it’s hanging low with the work you have done.

As you speak tenderly to the roots, you will see 2 things. Firstly, the tree will begin to respond to you - small, green buds will begin to sprout from the tree’s branches. The canopy will become heavier and heavier and it will hang lower in the centre as you sow into the spirit. But as you continue to speak, in the first season, the tree will only show signs of life. The tree itself still looks dead, despite the appearance of life. But don’t give up, keep speaking, keep sowing and storing. In the second season, the canopy will burst and shower the tree, touching every branch and leaf, cascading down the trunk, bringing life and nourishing the very roots. Then the fruit will appear. No longer will the ground be frustrated or cursed because it is now subject to new ownership.

Those who went before you knew the ground had been cursed but you have decided to remove it. The ground no longer belongs to them because a new name has been put on the title deed of the land. This is why God will heal the tree that was contaminated with words of those who went before.
