Young Entrepeneurs
Some of the things covered on this years course
Information you’ll find useful as you begin to take on your new life
It starts with you
If you want to change the world, start with you. Think about who you’re going to become (rather than what you’ll be doing) because the “new you” will have lots to achieve. This means recognising your strengths and playing to them. It also means understanding your current weaknesses and refining them until they become strengths. Whatever is holding you back... break it.
Creating a brighter future
The best way to predict your own future is to create it. Think about how you want your life to be, rather than just how much money you want to make. Your chosen path should help you to grow as a man (or woman), allowing you to focus fully on your purpose - your entrepreneurial decisions should not take you away from that but free you to pursue it passionately.
Living without limits
You cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought. The only limitations we have are those we place on ourselves. The world is full of success stories where men and women came from almost nothing and rose to the top. You can be the next one. We must break any limitations that have been holding us down so we can press on strong.
The power of negotiation
Always haggle, whether you’re buying or selling. Practice using your cheat sheets until you don’t need to look at them anymore. Create opportunities to practice - on market stalls, with your local news agent, when buying white goods, etc. Remember, there’s no downside - you either walk away with a better deal or (at least) the same deal others are getting. You’ll use these skills every day as an entrepreneur. They will become part of who you are.
The power of the spoken word
Communication makes or breaks a person’s business and social life. Great communication buys great business contacts, amazing friends and a desirable spouse. People buy into you before they buy your products and services. Learn to expand your vocabulary and put yourself in situations where you can constantly improve the way you communicate. Read “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. Your tongue is your most valuable asset.
Change the way you think
It’s not what you think but how you think that’s important. Read “Rich Dad Poor Dad” to help increase your financial intelligence. Otherwise, if you’re lucky you’ll have only one successful idea your whole life - you’ll spend the rest of your life trading on the back of one success (and likely failing). Instead, surround yourself with people more creative, more intelligent and more experienced than yourself. Cultivate an atmosphere that inspires you to form successful business ideas.
Making business work
The best business ideas are simply those that make the most money. This is not “American Inventor” so you don’t have to create anything new. If you can buy low and sell high to make a large profit on products and services that you market to the largest possible audience, you’ve come up with a great business model.
